Oh, well I guess I should spill the beans about the trip already. I probably would have posted this from my phone when I got to Costa Rica, but as soon as I got off the plane I found out my phone plan didn’t have roaming.
Anyway, back to the trip. Where to start? I guess I start at the airport. After all, that’s where the trip started right? We got there an hour before departure. I was really nervous about the trip. I mean, I did spend almost eleven years in the United States! No doubt there would be stuff I would miss. And there is! But I digress.
Getting back to the subject now. While I was in the airport spent some time wandering. I went to the McDonald’s to get me something to settle my stomach after all that idle pensiveness. Since I didn’t want to get yelled at for ordering an entire breakfast tray, I just bought myself a hashbrown. Luckily, Mcdonald’s hashbrowns a one thing I don’t have to miss here, but again, off-topic. Continuing to wander the airport, I found the gift shop. In it I found an item which holds many memories for me. One of those diecast airplane sets you find in every airport.
I don’t have many memories of Costa Rica, indeed, I left when I was only three years old, but the few I do I hold very dearly. Among those scarce memories is one of recieving a gift before leaving Costa Rica. I don’t remember who it was from or how long before leaving it was given to me, all I remember is what it was and how much I loved it. I remember feeling the cool metal of the fuselage, playing around with the doofy little plastic signs it came with. Unfortunately since that time it has been lost, it is among the number of toys I have lost over the years. Some I didn’t care enough to remember what they were (such every Happy Meal toy I’ve ever gotten), and some fill me with painful regret that I didn’t keep (like my Armada Starscream and Optimus Prime). Understand, I really wanted to buy this airplane set, but alas, it was too expensive (I really should have seen it coming. IT WAS IN AN AIRPORT GIFTSHOP).
Anyway, after that painfull episode, I just walked over and bought myself a bunch of Kitkats (they don’t sell them in Costa Rica). After having a nice conversation with the cashier about Kitkat availability in Costa Rica and noticing a twenty dollar box of alligator-shaped chocolate, I made my way to where my parents were waiting. With only a few minutes before departure, I snapped a couple pictures and boarded the plane. On the plane we spent a good two hours flying to our destination. During which I wolfed down a bag of chips and took a lot of meaningless video. Spyshot had a good time. He spent the flight lazing about on my fold-out tray.
When we landed I scrambled to the luggage pick-up. The airline deemed the bag containing my transformers to big to me a carry-on. I was scared when checking the contents of the bag. I had heard horror stories about mistreatment of luggage and things arriving broken. Luckily all that happened was the my RoTF Prime’s smokestacks were a little bent. After that, we were picked up by my uncle. We stayed at his house for a couple days while we sorted things out. Waiting for us was one of the boxes we sent containing our stuff. Nothing really interesting. Just a bunch of basic stuff like clothes, bedding, and such. In there was a bunch of books, mostly my mom’s scrapbooks.
After a few days, we went down from San Jose to Playon Sur (Roughly translates as “Big South Beach,” I think) where my grandparents live. We’re currently staying there, but we’ve already bought a plot of land where we’ll be building our house.
Well, that’s about all I can think of for this post. But keep watching this page, I still have a lot more to post about Costa Rica! Don’t touch that tab! The next Costa Rica post may come sooner than you think!
